Product FAQ Questions and Answers
+My car does not have any raingutters. Are you able to fit a roof rack to my car even though it does not have any raingutters?
Yes, many different manufacturers (Thule, Yakima, Barrecrafters) make bar systems to fit newer vehicles that do not have the traditional exterior raingutters. By the way, all vehicles have raingutters – older vehicles have the traditional exterior raingutter while newer vehicles have the raingutter behind the door.
+Is it possible to carry bikes and a roof top box on the factory rack of my mini-van?
The strength and load capacity of factory racks varies from vehicle to vehicle. Check your owner’s manual or right on the rack to see what you are rated for. In most cases it would be difficult to carry both bikes and a roof top box at the same time, you could choose do one or the other. Please contact us for more information on your particular vehicle.
+Can a removable bar system scratch the roof of my car?
The roof racks are designed to protect the vehicle when proper care is taken. Regular use or leaving the rack on for extended periods of time can have an impact.
+Will a roof rack make wind noise?
This problem will vary from car to car, usually when a roof rack is mounted with no accessories. If this is a problem there is often an economical solution.
+Do I have to buy and expensive multi-use rack to carry skis or snowboards on my car?
We do offer pure ski and snowboard racks from Barrecrafters and Sportrack that will allow you to carry skis and snowboards at about half the cost of a multi-use rack system.
+Can I go through a car wash with a roof rack or ski box still attached to my car?
Generally this is a very bad idea, however touchless washes are usually OK as well as the wand style wash where you spray the car yourself.
+I am thinking of purchasing a ski box but I still need to fit inside my garage at home and the parkade at work. What advice do you have?
Before purchasing a ski or sport box, we recommend that you measure the clearance of where you need to park. With this information, we can help you find a box that suits your needs.
+What rack options do you have for carrying 4 bikes on a SUV?
There are 3 main places to carry bikes on any vehicle: the roof, trunk, or towing hitch. With SUV’s, usually the roof is too high to reach when loading bikes. The trunk racks can carry up to 3 bikes only. A hitch mounted bike rack can carry 4 bikes safely and securely and is the best option in our opinion.
+I am going on vacation next week and can't seem to fit everything in my car. Can you help me?
Yes, we sell sport and ski boxes which can be used to transport anything that fits inside of them. Just remember that a roof-top box needs to mount on a bar system.
+My mini-van has a hitch on it. Can I use a hitch mounted bike rack and still tow with the hitch?
Probably not. Most hitch mounted bike racks either mount where the ball would mount or slide into the receiver instead of the drawbar. However, there are some bike racks that would accomplish your goal but only work in limited situations. (eg. towing a boat trailer or vehicle)
+Do you fix racks? I drove into my garage with my bikes still mounted to my roof rack.
Yes, we do fix racks. Just bring the rack down to our shop.
