It was a cold and stormy night, back in November 1990. The last customer of the evening had just rented skis from our sports rental shop but did not have a rack to put them on. Our last rental rack was gone, but the customer asked if he could buy one. We did not have any new ones for sale at that time but the light went on and Racks Unlimited was born.
From that moment on, rack sales became a part of our business. Within a year, rack sales were dominant and our business focus changed to a full service, year-round rack shop.
As Western Canada's first complete vehicle rack store, our aim was, and still is, to supply the motoring public with the finest in rack systems, service, and installations to meet all their needs.
From our small beginning, we now have 2 stores in Calgary, Alberta, catering to the requirements of all winter and summer recreational activities. We specialize in rack systems for skiing and snowboarding, cycling, water sports, and miscellaneous cargo. In addition to sports related racks, we have a strong selection of van and truck racks for commercial use.
To complete the picture, Racks Unlimited also sells and installs trailer hitches, as hitch mounted bicycle racks have become one of the most favoured ways to carry bikes.
New sales are not the only focus - we do accept trade-ins and have a varied selection of used racks on consignment. Our showrooms are full of the finest products from all the major manufacturers; including Thule, Yakima, Swagman, SportRack, Rocky Mounts, Kargo Master, and many others.
As vehicles continue to change year after year, rack systems will change also to keep up with new innovations.
